Soar...

Remember why we loved the swings? Because they made us believe, with the imagination of youth, that we could fly. Isn't it uplifting to know now, with the wisdom of age, that by giving back, we can soar!

Here We Go...

On September 1, 2007, we distributed a total of 1,500 "A Gift of Pearls" raffle tickets to as many classmates as possible, thru a networking system we set up. The goal is to raise at least P100,000.00 for SEFI. For more details on our raffle and SEFI, scroll down.

And several of our classmates are now working hard on yet another show-stopping dance presentation for the 2008 Alumnae Homecoming. For more details on the Homecoming, follow the link to the Official Site of STAA.

We need all the support of all our classmates and friends now. Send us your pledges and suggestions now.

The Meaning of Pearl

Altho the pearl is known more as the birthstone for June, and therefore the gem of choice of brides, it is also the symbol of a 30th anniversary. It is traditionally considered as the first gem, as its beauty is readily seen, requiring no cutting and polishing to reveal its true value. It is a gift of a living creature, carrying with it a depth and luminosity that makes it seemingly glow from within, a pearl's distinctive luster. It is a metaphor for life, virtue, love, wisdom, justice, spirituality and righteousness.

It is our country's national gemstone and the Philippines is best known for its champagne-colored South Sea pearls, ranging from creamy yellow to
deep gold.

St. Teresa of Avila

Our Class graduated on March 28, 1978, on the 463rd birth anniversary of St. Teresa of Avila. And yet her life, at the same stage of our lives as we celebrate our pearl anniversary, still holds relevance. Having faced a crisis of health and spirituality in her late 30s, she returned to prayer, with great difficulty, at the age of 41. But only 2 years later, at the age of 43, she was determined to found a new contemplative convent based on a simple life of poverty devoted to prayer. Then at the age of 51, she spread her reform movement and founded even more convents, spreading her doctrinal theories on prayer throughout Europe.

SEFI

In 1972, the Sambayan Educational Foundation, Inc. (SEFI) was organized by the Missionary Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary (ICM) and a group of STCQC parents and alumnae. Its main objective is to make available our Theresian education to less privileged but deserving students. The SEFI program is not strictly a scholarship program. It is a reduced tuition fee program for eleven years of schooling from Prep until High School for qualified lower middle income students. Applicants must pass a rigorous set of criteria as well as entrance examinations. Once a student has been accepted into the program, a social worker monitors her progress and her family environment. The privacy and confidentiality of the arrangement is also assured. STCQC parents, alumnae and friends continue to make substantial contributions to the program, primarily thru the alumnae homecoming fund-raising activities.

For more information, follow the link to the Official Site of The SEFI Program.

A Gift of Pearls

In 2008 our Class will be celebrating our Pearl Jubilee. Our goal is to match the amount of the donation we made during our Silver Jubilee thru a fund-raising raffle. Our beneficiary will be SEFI, the tuition fee reduction program of STCQC. Each raffle ticket will cost P100.00 and the prizes will all be pearl-themed. Proceeds of the fund-raising raffle will be turned over to SEFI on January 26, 2008, during the Alumnae Homecoming.

Theresians All

I marched the green grass brown and loved-hated every moment.
I worked and got scared and grew strong in Tondo and cried
when it was time to leave.
I kept a record of grammatical errors that I heard, right beside the record of mannerisms that I saw.
I loved the retreats and hoped that they would last forever.
I wished upon a lot of stars and chased a lot of rainbows
I believed in a lot of things and fought for them...
I was a Theresian.

Our Class graduated from St. Theresa's College QC, on March 28, 1978. There were 151 graduates at that time, but our Class encompasses all those who were our classmates at St. Theresa's, from the time we completed kindergarten in 1967, our elementary education in 1974, our high school in 1978, and the years in between.
